Nelson Ledges Quarry Park
Nelson Ledges Quarry Park has the distinction of being the closest inland dive site to the Cleveland metro area. Its topography is also distinctly different from that found in rock quarries further west. Depths average 30 feet; however, there are several deep trenches, the deepest of which (known as The Abyss) reaches 70 feet. Visibility in the spring-fed quarry can average 15 feet or more. Under water, divers will find the usual assortment of freshwater fish and turtles. Catfish grow unusually large here, with rumored sighting of behemoths in the four- to five-foot range. You may also see rare, freshwater jellyfish.
Besides being a destination for nature activities below and above the water, the park is host to several outdoor music concerts. There are picnic areas, grills, new playground area, 250 acres for hiking and biking, restrooms, basketball court, volleyball court and a swimming beach.
Visit quarry website for latest information on admission fees.
